Library Discovery - User Guide: Refining Search Results

Filtering Search Results

The Tweak your results section, which appears on the left side of the results page, contains a list of filters. By including and excluding these filters (such as Availability, Resource Type), you can narrow the search results to get the results you are seeking.

When filters are added one at a time, the system returns the remaining results that match the selected category. Alternatively, you can specify more complex filtering by selecting multiple filters and then applying them to the results at the same time.

Adding Persistent Filters

When performing many similar types of searches, you may want to retain your filters for subsequent searches within a search session. To make a filter persistent, hover the cursor over the filter in the Active filters section and then select the filter's padlock PadlockIcon.png

To make all active filters persistent, select Remember all filters.

Personalizing Search Results

Personalized settings enable users to boost the rankings of records that match their preferred disciplines. This type of ranking is particularly helpful for ambiguous searches, where search results come from a variety of disciplines or include a large set of articles. It does not replace the topic filter or act as a filter. It simply adjusts the ranking algorithm to the general discipline of the user.

To enable personalized settings:
1. Perform a search within a search scope "Library Catalogue + Online only".
2. Select the Personalize button that appears above the list of results.

3. In the Personalize the results dialog box, select up to five disciplines.

4. Select PERSONALIZE IT.
