Service-Learning (S-L) was launched as a signature pedagogy in NP in March 2016. This Library Resource Guide aims to provide information on S-L in NP as well as discipline-specific resources to equip academic staff to strengthen the use of S-L in their modules.
In Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), Service-Learning is both a philosophy and a pedagogy. It inspires us to keep learning, seek opportunities to apply that learning, deepen our understanding of community needs, and co-create solutions with the communities we serve.
Service-Learning is infused into different modules across all our schools in NP. Our students experience at least one credit-bearing module in which Service-Learning is the pedagogy. They participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of personal values and civic responsibility*.
